TEMPLE OLD KIRK FRIENDS
Who are we?
Our group promotes discussions between people from the Moorfoot area, Midlothian Council representatives and others with conservation as well as archaeological expertise in order to change the situation in which
the Old Kirk is steadily deteriorating and becoming dangerous as well as inaccessible.
What do we do?
We were set up in order to advance a programme
for the urgently needed repair and maintenance of Temple Old Kirk.
Our aim is to secure funding for the assessment, oversight and long-term preservation of the Old Kirk's stone structure in order to enhance the experience
of all those who visit.
We also want to extend the understanding of the historical significance of the structure as well as
the aesthetic value of the setting of the Old Kirk,
notable for the peaceful and picturesque qualities
of a 17th-century ruin within a rural churchyard.
The current condition of Temple Old Kirk:
FENCED OFF AND INACCESSIBLE
UNSAFE TO APPROACH
IMMINENT THREAT OF FALLING DEBRIS OR EVEN STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE
